      <image:caption>PROGI is BINGO night meets pierogi dinner in the form of a participatory art event. Participants are served a meal of homemade pierogi, applesauce, sauerkraut, kielbasa, bread and sour cream. As they eat this meal, they play a customized, BINGO-like game, PROGI, in which the playing cards have been customized with drawings, prints and images from local artists. The first PROGI took place in June 2013, in the basement of the Polish National Catholic Church of the Resurrection, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.</image:caption>

      <image:title>ZAZAZA - ZAZAZA</image:title>
      <image:caption>ZAZAZA: A Global Pizza Conference, was a series of interactive, collaborative meals organized by Jacquelyn Strycker, and sponsored by ArtPod. The event’s title is a play on the word “za,” American slang for pizza, and the 1982 German hit pop song, “Da Da Da” by the band Trio. Participants were asked to bring their own unique toppings, and to collaborate on the creation of pizzas. The events also included an original karaoke, and a lecture on the history of pizza. The series culminated in the creation of a ZAZAZA cookbook that included recipes, drawings and poems created by participants.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>February 28 - March 14, 2015 at the SVA Chelsea Gallery Curated by Jacquelyn Strycker and Allison Hewitt Ward The highway is never our terminus. Instead, it's a stretch between places— a journey, a process, a connector of past and future, of possibilities. As we travel on the highway, we paradoxically venture into the open frontier within the contained space of the automobile, experiencing the landscape through the car window, time concurrently passing at two speeds. The rest stop is a non-place, a space of transience. It's neither the journey nor the destination but instead a space in which to pause. We pause the process that is the highway, and then pass through.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Highways and Rest Stops: Passages in Current Practice</image:title>
      <image:caption>"Passage," art critic Michael Brenson noted in his 2004 essay collection Acts of Engagement: Writings on Art, Criticism, and Institutions, 1993-2002, is a word pregnant with antagonisms: ‘exit, trap; fright, play; hiding, exposure.’" Brenson continues, "Because of its associations with the middle passage as well as the free travel and transformation, passage is marked by both enslavement and liberation." It also calls to mind another famous route, the Northwest Passage, a shipping route across North America that remains ever on the edge of possibility and therefore ever entrenched in the imagination. We speak of passages of text chosen for their particular poignancy and of rights of passage, processes of change and becoming. The passage of time connotes both continuity and transformation. The Silk Road, too, might be called a passage, an exchange of commodities and culture between once distant worlds. It finds its modern descendant in the highway, the arterial system of travel and commodity exchange. Passage, of course, is not merely a route but a movement, a working through, a transformation of space, time and psyche. The works in this exhibition are in various states of passage. They address the movements of commodities and bodies through time and space, as well as the movement of time and space itself.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>July 10 - August 6, 2014 at the SVA Chelsea Gallery Curated by Thyrza Nichols Goodeve and Jacquelyn Strycker The exhibition takes its name from a Buddhist teaching of Ajahn Chah, as explained by Mark Epstein in Psychotherapy without the Self: Do you see this glass? I love this glass. It holds the water admirably. When I tap it, it has a lovely ring. When the sun shines on it, it reflects the light beautifully. But when the wind blows and the glass falls off the shelf and breaks or if my elbow hits it and it falls to the ground I say of course. But when I know that the glass is already broken, every minute with it is precious.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Already Broken: The Personal That Is Not Ours</image:title>
      <image:caption>Appreciate the present. Take joy in the transition. JD Raenbeau’s works document his alter persona, Cordelia Fagonard’s, return to his childhood bedroom, where she role plays with My Little Pony dolls. Samuel Nichols’ Tuff Rabbit is an abstract portrait of his uncle, Jo “Butch” Satmary, a professional drag racer, and his childhood hero, who he later learned was arrested on drug charges. Unnatural History, Bryan Moore’s series of drawings and sculptures, portrays historical giants of conventional history, including presidents, statesmen and dinosaurs, each of who have met untimely deaths—assassinations and extinctions. Already Broken: The Personal That Is Not Ours includes work by Callie Barker, Kristen Bisson, Hovey Brock, Tina Chavera, Amy Dolan, Quinn Dukes, JD Raenbeau, Alexandra Hammond, Unnur Leifsdottir, Brandi Martin, Bryan Moore, Samuel Nichols, Lou Woods and Pippi Zornoza.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>July 8 - July 17, 2016 at Present Company, Brooklyn Curated by Jacquelyn Strycker The word “timeshare” conjures thoughts of vacation homes– collectively owned properties that each owner takes possession of for a couple weeks each year. And, indeed, for seven weeks this summer, the twelve artists, all members of the SVA MFA Art Practice Class of 2017, temporarily claim NYC as their home. TIMESHARE contemplates a collective and temporary possession of place. The artists address themes of transition, memory and artifact and consider place as a multidisciplinary construct for cultural inquiry.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Quality Time - QUALITY TIME</image:title>
      <image:caption>July 14 - August 8, 2017 at SVA Chelsea Gallery Curated by Jacquelyn Strycker How do we define “quality time?” As participants in a low-residency graduate program, the artists in this exhibition, members of the MFA Art Practice class of 2018, spend seven weeks together each summer. Seven feverishly scheduled weeks – 12+ hour days packed with lectures, workshops, critiques, exhibitions, and of course, studio time. Is this quality time?</image:caption>
    </image:image>
    <image:image>
      <image:loc>https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/56c644054c2f8533ce2a322e/1508964512817-WCVF03ZDRFL54J2IAN0R/36564358060_76b2bfb34a_z.jpg</image:loc>
      <image:title>Quality Time</image:title>
      <image:caption>During the remaining 45 weeks of the year, the artists in this show make their livings– as educators, designers, commercial photographers, business professionals. They have families; they are partners and caregivers. They remain connected with one another in a digital space. They make art in the in-between times. Is this quality time?</image:caption>

      <image:title>Quality Time</image:title>
      <image:caption>The concept of “quality time,” is one in which we seek to capitalize on the worth of our time. But “quality” is neither objective, nor universal. Is quality time that in which we maximize efficiency and yield? Or is it that in which we connect? The artists in this exhibition explore the significance of productivity, the value of interruption, iteration, and accumulation, along with the social and cultural facets of time. Drawing relationships between creativity, labor, value and community, they consider the differences between the physical, the psychic and the virtual, between sharing space and sharing time.</image:caption>

The artists in this exhibition created works that imagined and responded to the unpredictable– illness, natural disaster, economic collapse and crises. They at once contemplated both the beauty and the inauspiciousness of the zen notion that control over our own fates is an illusion.</image:caption>
